Article Abstract:

The 370-mile long Texas coast, featuring barrier islands, peninsulas, inlets, bays, and lagoons providing 670 miles of shoreline, which is still undeveloped, is discussed. The protected federal and state land covers major portion of the coast, and the remaining portion is preserved in its natural form by private environmental and agriculture interests, resulting in a huge area of semitropical coastal habitat which is important for the overall ecological health of the entire Gulf of Mexico.
