Angry mail: baiting and federal management of land are hot subjects to readers of this column

Article Abstract:

A sampling of letters from readers includes an explanation from Rep James V. Hansen that only a small portion of federal land in Utah has been proposed for official 'wilderness' because unpaved roads disqualify such land for consideration. If this is the case, perhaps the Wilderness Act should rewritten.

Win one, maybe another

Article Abstract:

Sportsmen's letters got Congress to stop the Tennessee Valley Authority from developing the Land Between the Lakes, and similar activism is needed to reform anti-baiting bird-hunting regulations. Rep Don Young's bill provides needed reforms, but is opposed by the Wildlife Management Institute.

Baiting and the law: anti-baiting laws serve no real conservation purpose, but they do give anti-hunters a way to sue

Article Abstract:

The federal regulations against using bait to attract game birds are moralistic and intrusive. If the killing of birds is kept within the daily limit, it would seem not to matter whether some were attracted by food. Regulations and enforcement are discussed.
