What is an athlete?

Article Abstract:

A former trombone player, who had difficultly deciding whether he was a musician, is now a runner, who has difficulty deciding whether he is an athlete. However, 'musician' and 'athlete' are states of mind, and neither should be based on a comparison with others.

Many runners are dreamers who imagine themselves as victors in a race. They are no different than the boy who fantasizes about hitting a home run in a baseball game. Fantasies should be used as motivation for achieving real goals.
