Better blood flow: surgery may strike down stroke risk

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that carotid endarterectomy is a more effective stroke preventative than aspirin. The surgery is performed to remove plaque from the arteries leading to the brain. Patients are advised to reduce all risk factors such as smoking and diabetes before seeking the operation.

Waist management: abdominal fat may signal stroke risk, too

Article Abstract:

A Harvard stroke-risk-factors test of 8,643 men found that men who had the greatest measure of belly fat, also had the higher risk for having strokes. This is also true for women. This may be because artery-clogging fatty acids from the abdominal areas enter the blood more frequently.
