Boathandling: A shorthand solution

Article Abstract:

Some of the skills and meager equipments necessary having on any voyaging boat is discussed. The basic concept involves using one of the sails to control the helm, by using staysail, with the sheet run aft along the weather rail through a series of leading blocks, then through a turning block to the windward side of the tiller.

A conspiracy of wind and current

Article Abstract:

Tips are offered on how sailors could be aware of conditions that make for treacherous waves. It is suggested that one could make their own local wave forecast based on a little knowledge of the wind, swell, and current that would help them develop safe sailing practice.
