The Texas coast and its estuaries are described. The characteristics such as shelving offshore waters, low estuarine coast rich in wildlife and unimpaired breezes that kept pioneers away have helped preserve much of the Texas coast and its estuaries in their original state.

The sailboat Melinda Lee was undertaking a five-year circumnavigation when a ship collided with it and ran away without giving help to the Sleavin family aboard the boat. The accident caused the disappearance of the boat and its passengers except for a lone survivor.

Coast guard held liable in fatalities

Article Abstract:

When the Cal 34 'Morning Dew' sank just outside Charleston Harbour, South Carolina on December 29 1997, three teenagers died. The Coast Guard has been held liable for failing in its search for the teenagers but was not liable for the deaths of the adults on board.
