Conditioning for the trail

Article Abstract:

Backpackers and hikers will avoid injuries and accidents best if they are in good physical condition before hitting the trail. Aerobic exercise for heart conditioning and exercises for strength and flexibility are described, and a training regimen is given.

Hike farther, faster

A diet rich in carbohydrates will give an active person energy. Sports drinks and power bars, taken frequently in small doses, are a good source of carbohydrates while hiking. Keeping in shape and drinking a lot of water are also important factors.

Adults can take steps early to slow the ravages of age. Back exercises, a diet rich in vegetables and fruits, proper sleep and rest, deep breathing, aspirin, weight training, a good warm-up regimen and other factors can ease the aging process.
