Wolves that escape Yellowstone

Article Abstract:

The reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone Park in 1995-1996 has caused great controversy. The wolves were brought back to help control expanding elk herds. However, some people believe the project has been too successful in that the wolves have started to roam outside the park where they may be a threat to other wildlife and hunting interests.

Wolf reintroduction: a return to the natural balance or a threat to big-game animals

Article Abstract:

Wolves are not endangered so some hunters do not want them reintroduced into big-game areas where they will compete with human hunters. Yet reintroducing wolves will cut the cost of wildlife management and hunting can still go on. Wolves tend not to attack livestock, and if they do, ranchers will be compensated.

Crossing the line: government shooters are being hired to reduce Yellowstone's bison herd. Why not hunters?

Article Abstract:

Ranchers near Yellowstone Park fear the contamination of their herds by brucellosis disease spread by bison, which has led to sanctioned reduction of bison herds. The bison should be tested for the disease and disease-free one should be moved, not hunted, to maintain the park's ecology.
