Evelyn Spence recounts her guided tour of the Sierra High Route in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the range of mountains Sierra Club founder John Muir spent 40 years exploring. The route, which is usually tackled in the beginning of May, was first skied by Dave Beck in 1975.

A-Basin, Colorado is a ski area with high peaks and a narrow basin, at the bottom of which lie a few restaurants and bars. The closest place to sleep is in Keystone, or at the Ski Tip Lodge. It can be quite warm at the base, while it will snow at the peaks.
