Delayed blood reoxygenation following maximum voluntary contraction

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to observe and quantify the time courses of the total hemoglobin concentration [THb] and oxyhemoglobin saturation recovery after dorsiflexion maximum voluntary contraction (MVC). Three phases to the post-MVC oxygen supply-demand coupling unaffected by gender were observed which are rising oxygen demand relative to supply, rising oxygen supply relative to demand, restoration of precontraction oxygen supply-demand matching.

Determinants of oxidative phosphorylation onset kinetics in isolated myocytes

Article Abstract:

The onset kinetics of mitochondrial respiration was studied at the start of contractions in isolated single myocytes. Individual myocytes were microinjected with a porphyrin compound to allow phosphorescent measurement of intracellular PO2.

Oxygen uptake and muscle desaturation kinetics during intermittent cycling

Article Abstract:

The associaton of pulmonary oxygen uptake and blood lactate accumulation profiles seems to provide a functionally rigorous classification of intermittent exercise intensity compared to work rate, heart rate, and other classical markers.
