Effective fluid replacement

Article Abstract:

Athletes must replace fluids lost during training and competition. Fluid loss can affect the cardiovascular and thermoregulatory systems. Athletes should develop a routine to intake fluids immediately before and during performance. Studies have suggested that athletes should replace 100% of used fluids after exercise, but recent studies suggest the figure should be 150%. Palatability, absorption rates, electrolyte content, and ergogenic benefit are key considerations when choosing the best fluid replacement.
