Electrical simulation alters FMD and arterial compliance in extremely inactive legs

Article Abstract:

The effect and time course of 4 wk of electrically induced leg training on arterial compliance endothelial function are examined. Results reveal that daily electrically induced training of an extremely deconditioned leg in spinal cord-injured individuals normalizes their initially enhanced flow mediated dilation (FMD) response and elevates arterial compliance and hyperemic flow in the femoral artery of the trained leg only.

Intravascular hemolysis and mean red blood cell age in athletes

Article Abstract:

Indirect red blood cell (RBC) age parameters were measured in running and nonrunning athletes to see whether running athletes have a younger RBC population. The impact of foot-strike hemolysis on the athlete's RBC's turnover is questioned.
