Exercise training and heart rate variability in older people

Article Abstract:

Studies show that regular physical exercise may have a beneficial effect on heart rate variability in the elderly. A correlation was found between cardiac events and poor heart rate variability in older persons, and that exercise improved variability levels. These findings indicate that exercise has the potential to mitigate factors associated with cardiac events and mortality.

Comparison of accelerometers with oxygen consumption in older adults during exercise

Article Abstract:

Accelerometers may not consistently provide accurate data when attempting to measure estimated energy expenditure for older adults during exercise. Eighty-six adults wore two different accelerometers while exercising for five minutes on treadmills. Exercise mode and intensity will affect the difference between estimated and measured energy expenditure.

Immunity in frail elderly: a randomized controlled trial of exercise and enriched foods

Article Abstract:

This article examines the health benefits of an exercise training program and a controlled diet of enriched food on cellular immune response in frail elderly people. Dietary supplementation did not affect immune response, but exercise prevented a decline in cellular immunity that is commonly associated with aging.
