Designed to inform

Article Abstract:

Designer-produced annual reports are increasingly being used as a marketing tool to enhance a company's image rather than merely present financial statements. Designer-produced annual reports in the UK are expensive and time consuming, costing anywhere between 20,000 and 500,000 pounds sterling and taking up to six months to produce. Companies opting for designer annual reports should be on their guard to prevent overdoing the design and thus obliterating the presentation of financial information. Ballie Marshall Design's (Dundee, Scotland) George Headley explains the attraction of designer-produced annual reports as reflecting a company's desire to use the report as part of a series of marketing tools rather than as merely a statutory document.
