Fruits of Their Labor

Article Abstract:

The track team of McFarland High School, California, is made up primarily of children of Mexican immigrants. During the summer, the team members labor in the fields all day and train with their coach in the afternoons. McFarland's team has beat schools with 5 times its enrollment and, and is ranked in the top 25 cross-country teams nationally. Coach Jim White is legend in McFarland, and encourages his team to use their running skills as a ticket out of a future of agriculture labor.
