Glycemic index - a new tool in sport nutrition?

Article Abstract:

Studies show that glucose and carbohydrate dietary content produce specific physiological effects, but have not yet been linked directly with physical performance. Athletes usually consume low-glucose/high-carbohydrate foods prior to exercise, which increases carbohydrate availability as an energy source and enhances glycogen storage after exercising. Glycemic indexing can monitor these levels but cannot provide direct correlations to physical performance.

Control of muscle protein synthesis as a result of contractile activity and amino acid availability: implications for protein requirements

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the relationship between muscle protein synthesis, physical activity, and amino acid metabolism. An analysis of food habits, muscle mass, and leucine metabolism is presented.
