Goin' low: forty years ago, Mike Souchak lit up the Tour with a 72-hole scoring record that still stands

Article Abstract:

Golfer Mike Souchak won the 1955 Texas Open with a 72-hole total of 257, and the score still stands 40 years later as the lowest 72-hole total in the history of the PGA Tour. The tournament was played in cold and windy conditions, and Souchak himself is surprised the record has endured.
