Tandem basics

Riding a tandem bicycle requires different techniques than riding a single one. Working together as a team can be difficult. Tips are given on how to mount the bike, shift, brake, select a route and effective ways to communicate with a partner.

Durango, CO, is home to many champion cyclists, and cycling is considered an accepted way of life rather than an aberration. Cyclists who are used to lower altitudes may have some trouble adjusting to the 6,500-foot altitude.
