A personal narrative of sailing with emphasis on the dream of going ocean sailing to circumnavigate the world is presented. Sailing in the the 1985 Transpacific Yacht Race made the author realise he wanted to go home and did not need to travel around the world.

Pinkney comes home alone

Bill Pinkney became the first African-American to circumnavigate solo through the five capes. Pinkney made his two-year voyage aboard a cutter-rigged Valiant 47.
