Outboard motors have more power than stern drives. But stern drive runabouts are less expensive, and they have sleek profiles that appeal to many boaters. Two versions of the Four Winds 170 Horizon are tested. One version is equipped with an outboard and the other with a stern drive.

Four most: Honda BF130: why wait for 2006?
Article Abstract:
The Honda BF130 four-stroke outboard motorboat engine was used on an Arima Sea Ranger 19. The engine's fuel economy is excellent with 12.3 gph compared to 15.2 gph for a Mercury OptiMax 135 and 12.7 gph for a Johnson Ficht 115. Honda would not reveal the price for the BF130.

The OMC Cobra gasoline V-8 stern drive is the product of a joint venture between Outboard Marine Corp and Volvo Penta. The drive offers excellent starting, acceleration and performance. Top speed in a Four Winns 190 Horizon was 47.6 mph.
