Intercollegiate media guides as contested terrain: A longitudinal analysis

Article Abstract:

Women's entrance into sport marked a quest for equality and media representations of athletic females were a powerful vehicle for subverting any counter hegemonic potential posed by sportswomen are argued and thus it represents a challenge to male domination. The findings revealed an unmistakable shift toward representations of women as serious athletes and a sharp decline in gender differences.

This article examines the complex racial dynamics involved in American sports. Sports have played an influential role in providing equal opportunities to minority athletes and promoting change in the United States, but they have also helped to reinforce racist beliefs and discriminatory social practices.

The gendered unapologetic: queer resistance in women's sport

Article Abstract:

Women who play rugby in the US have shown similar behavior habit patterns to gay people who are unapologetic about their homosexuality. This attitude can be described as "queer" resistance, comprised of destabilizing the gay/straight binary, transgressing gender, and openly confronting stigma.
