Joan Samuelson has decided to enter the Olympic Marathon Trials for the 1996 Olympics. Samuelson qualified for the trials in 1994, but she was waiting to evaluate her personal life before deciding to enter. Samuelson believes her training is going well, and she is looking forward to the Olympics.

Marathon runner Pippig sometimes misses having a more active social life due to her training schedule, but she believes that being somewhat of a loner keeps her from being distracted. She believes that the pain that comes from running is small when compared to the rewards running gives her.
