Lactate transporters (MCT proteins) in heart and skeletal muscles

Article Abstract:

Lactate transporters, or MCT proteins, have been investigated in skeletal and heart muscle. MCT1 was found to be expressed in heart and muscle and to be responsive to exercise training and to increase at a much lower training intensity in heart than in muscle. Whether or not lactate transport changes in exercise still is not known.

EPO, red cells, and serum transferrin receptor in continuous and intermittent hypoxia

Article Abstract:

Erythropoietin, or EPO, red cells, and serum transferrin receptor have been studied in intermittent and continuous hypoxia. Intermittent exposure to moderate normobaric hypoxia 12 hours each day for 1 week brings on stimulation of erythropoiesis like that stimulated by continuous exposure.

Plasma lactate decline during passive recovery from high-intensity exercise

Article Abstract:

Lactate removal during passive recovery from maximal exercise does not vary between trained and untrained participants. Researchers found comparable measures of decline in lactate levels up to 30 minutes after five trained men and five untrained men had completed bicycle exercise tests.
