A woman about to turn 40 is not thrilled with the prospect, but she is looking forward to the chance to compete in masters' division races. She wants her two young daughters to be able to see her run because she feels it will impart her values to them.

The organizer and sponsor of the New York City Marathon fulfilled his vow to run in and finish the five-borough race in 1992, though he was dying of cancer. He describes his race which he ran alongside his coach, marathon legend Grete Waitz.

A marathon of peace: reflections on the spirit of the Belgrade Marathon

The 1993 Belgrade Marathon and its related events were a very good example of how running transcends the animosities of nations. More than 20,000 people from 22 countries participated in the events and all was peaceful.
