Muscle control in elite alpine skiing

Article Abstract:

Eccentric rather than concentric muscle actions are present in super G, giant slalom, and slalom skiing. Freestyle mogul skiing involved no such muscle activities but a larger range of knee-angle movements than the other skiing techniques. The biomechanics of freestyle skiing are similar to a running stride. Sport-specific training should be based on the physiological demands of each discipline.

Quadriceps EMG/force relationship in knee extension and leg press

Article Abstract:

Results indicate that knee extension and leg press models exhibit similar force increments among muscles. Data further show a nonuniform recruitment pattern in the three superficial QF muscles and vastus lateralis electromyographic surface recordings that predict reliable force output.
