Neighborhood environmental factors correlated with walking near home: Using SPACES

Article Abstract:

A study presents data acquired with the Systematic Pedestrian and Cycling Environmental Scan (SPACES) instrument to determine which physical environmental factors are correlated with walking for recreation and for transport near home. Findings suggest that neighborhoods with pedestrian facilities that are attractive and comfortable and where there are local destinations, such as shops and public transports, are associated with walking near home.

Family structure and children's television viewing and physical activity

Article Abstract:

An examination on the relationships between family structure and objectively assessing physical activity (PA) and television (TV) viewing among children is presented. Results indicate that aspects of family structure interact differently with PA and TV viewing, suggesting interventions might need to be tailored with consideration of the family structure of children.
