Nutritional and physiological status of U.S. national figure staters

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the nutrient intake, biochemical indices and body composition of competitors in the National Figure Skating Championship. Four-day diet records, a fasting blood test, and body measurements were taken for a group of from 41 figure skaters between 11 and 18 years of age. Energy and nutrient intakes of the United States National Women's Artistic Gymnastics Team

Article Abstract:

Research shows that dietary practices of female US team gymnasts varies significantly from those of the average American female. While the vitamin intakes of national team artistic gymnasts exceed the recommended daily allowance, energy intakes represented in calories average 20% lower than the recommended requirement. As nearly half the gymnasts are on self-prescribed diets, intakes should be monitored to prevent nutrition deficiencies.
