ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE TUNDRA
Article Abstract:
A couple and their 19-month-old son took a backpacking trip in Alaska's Denali State Park. They covered a moderate 17 miles in four days, bringing along a bear-proof canister for the baby's diapers. Due to the 20 hours of Alaskan daylight, there was some confusion over timekeeping. Tips for coping with heavy winds are included.

Two friends backpacked in the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve with no agenda other than to relax and enjoy the Alaskan scenery. The trip allowed the author to appreciate the colors of nature and try her hand at painting. Related information on planning a trip to Wrangell-St. Elias is included.
