Perceived severity of the consequences of physical inactivity across the stages of change in older adults

Article Abstract:

An investigation of the consequences of the perceived severity of physical inactivity across various stages in older adults shows that perceived severity motivates physical activity. This perception is maintained through the active stages and separates persons in the pre-contemplation stage from those in the contemplation stage. The visibility dimension of hypokinetic diseases bears a strong relationship to the perceived severity. This mediates the relationship between visibility and stage of exercise behavior change.

Exercise and self-esteem in breast cancer survivors: an application of the exercise and self-esteem model

Article Abstract:

The exercise and self-esteem model (EXSEM) used for breast cancer survivors provides a viable method for analyzing the impact of physical activity on patient self-esteem. By assessing physical competence, exercise participation, physical acceptance and global self-esteem, EXSEM correlates the relationships between these factors, offering potential therapy strategies for cancer survivors.
