Performance at high pedaling cadences in well-trained cyclists

Article Abstract:

A study aims to determine the effects of high pedaling cadences on maximal cycling power output, or W(sub max) and whether anaerobic threshold is affected by pedaling cadence which could be responsible for the differences in performance. Results show that a high pedaling cadence reduces performance and anaerobic threshold during an incremental test in well-trained cyclists.

In professional road cyclists, low pedaling cadences are less efficient

Article Abstract:

The effects of changes in pedaling frequency on the gross efficiency (GE) and other physiological changes while generating high power outputs among cyclists was determined. Findings suggest that GE/economy improves, when riding at high PO due to lower motor unit recruitment.

Effect of pedaling technique on mechanical effectiveness and efficiency in cyclists

Article Abstract:

A study to help optimize cycling performance by measuring efficiency using different pedaling techniques is presented. The results concluded that mechanical effectiveness is not an indicator of efficiency across varied pedaling techniques.
