Wet your appetite

Article Abstract:

A recent survey shows that American fluid intake covers only 75% of proper hydration demands. Active people, particularly swimmers, have a greater need to remain hydrated. Several foods, added to the regular eight to 12 glasses of water needed by the body daily, are also rich sources of water. Melons, peaches, baked potatoes and rice are all heavy with water. These foods also have vitamins, fiber and minerals not found in ordinary water, which makes them better and healthier alternatives to snacks and other food types.

The truth of grains

Article Abstract:

Whole grains are more beneficial to the body than refined grains. Whole grains contain insoluble fiber which prevents constipation and certain types of cancer such as colorectal and breast cancer. They also contain soluble fiber which lowers cholesterol. Refined grains, on the other hand, are less nutritious than whole grains mainly because they are subjected to the process of refining which removes some of the grains' nutrients such as selenium and zinc.
