Pyromid Pack-Lite Plus

The $69.95 Pyromid Pack-Lite Plus camping stove is a folding square-shaped windscreen with a grill attached. The stove is designed to burn charcoal briquettes, but can also be used with twigs and pine cones. The 40-oz stove heats slowly and is best for short trips or as a backup to gas stoves.

Tips on how to plan and prepare delicious backpacking meals are given. On trips lasting less than nine days, 2 lbs of food per person, per day is a good rule. Remove all nonessential packaging and put each meal's ingredients in a plastic bag. Recipes presented include linguine in clam sauce.

This $64.95 stove is an excellent purchase for those who cook while backpacking. It is lightweight and burns white gas or kerosene. A quart of water will boil in five minutes, and its best feature is that unlike other stoves, it will simmer.
