Quality of life and anxiety in a phase II cardiac rehabilitation program

Article Abstract:

A study of 77 patients measured quality of life issues before and after a cardiac rehabilitation program. Negative psychological characteristics decreased due to rehabilitation and physical vitality and self-image improved. Those who began the program with great anxiety experienced less improvement. Defensiveness, however, did not affect quality of life. Those who left the program before completion believed they were not at risk medically, were in fact at less risk, or did not wish to emotionally confront their condition.
