Article Abstract:

Issues regarding interrogating power, or a methodology for reading sport critically, are discussed. The theory and methodology of this approach and the ontological and epistemological issues underlying these are also outlined. This approach is recommended as a methodology for making visible and producing counternarratives, or narratives containing resistant political possibilities.

Negotiating identities through disability sport

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to explore the multiplicity and complexity of identity construction for elite disabled athletes within the arena of disability sport. Study results show that societal perceptions based in the medical model of disability and the participants' impaired bodies play an important role in identity formation and sense of self-worth.
