Article Abstract:

The training and preparation of the U.S. Naval Academy's midshipmen is discussed. Every spring member of the academy with varying levels of experience sail the length of Chesapeake Bay and into the Atlantic for an overnight taste of ocean swells, which serves the purpose of preparing the Navy's young seamen for events like the Newport Bermuda Race and to develop the knowledge of what to do when things go wrong at sea.

Article Abstract:

A true story about two divers, Bill and Mark, and their near death experience at 170 feet underwater because of forged requisite number of dives in Bill's logbook is described. Training programs are set up and validated after a good deal of research and it is important to stick to the rules so that the diving instructor can assess the preparation for more advanced dives.
