Reduced neuromuscular activity with carbohydrate ingestion during constant load cycling

Article Abstract:

The effect of carbohydrate ingestion before and during intense constant load cycling to volitional fatigue on surface electromyographic (sEMG) activity from the vastus lateralis (VL) and vastus medialis (VM) muscles has been determined in this study. It was found that compared to placebo, the ingestion of a 6.4% carbohydrate-electrolyte solution resulted in a significant attenuation in the rise in sEMG activity from both the VL and VM muscles during the latter states of exercise and at the point of exhaustion.

Effect of active versus passive recovery on metabolism and performance during subsequent exercise

Article Abstract:

The effect of active recovery on metabolism and performance in a subsequent bout of high intensity aerobic exercise is investigated. When compared with passive recovery, active recovery between two bouts of intense aerobic exercise of 20-min duration does not assist in the maintenance of performance is demonstrated

The influence of low versus high carbohydrate diet on a 45-min strenuous cycling exercise

Article Abstract:

The effects of a 3-day high carbohydrate (H-CHO) and low carbohydrate (L-CHO) diet on a 45 min of cycling exercise are examined. No major effect of L-CHO on the 45-min cycling exercise were found, that the same was not true for H-CHO, when the total energy intake was adequate.
