Technology seemed to gaining an increasingly strong foothold in automobile racing, perhaps leading to a time when drivers would be almost irrelevant. However, both IndyCar and Formula One racing have taken steps to limit technology's impact in competitions.

Pylon racing ... a wing, a prayer and 4200 horsepower

Article Abstract:

Pylon racing, or the racing of aircraft over a nine-mile course, is impressive from a speed standpoint. The pylon racers reach speeds in excess of 500 mph. Perhaps the best unlimited pylon racer is Rare Bear, a Grumman Bearcat owned by Lyle Shelton.
