A man and a woman hike to North Carolina's Roan Mountain, which has alpine meadows. The southern Appalachian high country has a number of mountaintops, of which Roan is one. The couple is forced to hike during the night, but they still can see beautiful vistas on their way to the meadow.

A woman takes her mother and aunt hiking in Desolation Wilderness Area, CA. The mother and aunt have never hiked before, and are apprehensive about the trip since they can bring no makeup, take no showers, and have to go to the bathroom outside. But they end up enjoying themselves.
