Sailcloth: whence it comes

Sailcloth is made of industrial fibers such as polyester, nylon, Kevlar or Spectra. Polyester exhibits a low-stretch property while nylon has higher stretch than polyester. Kevlar has high breaking strength and high initial modulus while Spectra has good UV resistance and excellent breaking strength.

Three types of racing boat symmetrical spinnakers include the runner, reacher and all-purpose. Different spinnakers have different effects on a sail's geometry which in turn affects the stability and performance of racing boats.
