Article Abstract:

Seattle and King County, WA, have perhaps the best emergency care service in the US. In most areas of the country emergency medical care is suffering from overload and people wait for long periods of time outside emergency rooms. An examination of the service and of Harborview Medical Center is presented.

There is a consensus of opinion that body fat can be fatal, but a study of 25,389 men by epidemiologist Steven Blair has revealed that fat men who exercise regularly live as long as thin men who exercise regularly. In fact, they were more likely to live longer than thin men who did not exercise.

The Los Angeles basin suffers from the worst air pollution in the country. The pollution in the air exceeds federal health standards three days out of five. But Los Angeles County also has the toughest smog laws. An examination of various regulations and their enforcement is presented.
