Self-efficacy, personal goals, and wrestlers' self-regulation

Article Abstract:

A study of wrestlers' self-regulation reveals that the self-regulatory model is valid to assess the performance process of individuals. The study supports the role of self-efficacy for overtime performance, but its connection is influenced by personal goals. The perceptions of wrestlers regarding their capability and future performance are influenced by their present performance. There is a need to implement goal-setting programs as a method of intervention to address the self-regulatory process. However, the results of this study may not be applicable to team sports.

This article examines the effects of major league baseball contracts on the subsequent performance and motivation of players. Causes and consequences of free-set goals: an investigation of athletic self-regulation

Article Abstract:

This article examines the relationship between free-set goals, or personal goals set by an individual, and athletic performance in wrestling camp participants. Findings indicate that free-set goals are related to self-regulation and that the specificity and difficultly of these goals predict athletic performance.
