Self-report measures and scoring protocols affect prevalence estimates of meeting physical activity guidelines

Article Abstract:

The prevalence estimates of meeting physical activity guidelines are dependent on how the physical activity is measured and what scoring protocol is used. Data show that the proportion meeting the fitness guidelines range from 32 to 59% and prevalence estimates of meeting guidelines of different sport regulatory agencies depend on the evaluation procedures.

Using objective physical activity measures with youth: how many days of monitoring are needed?

Article Abstract:

Research findings show that reliable estimates of physical activity behavior of children and adolescents can be monitored with a seven day monitoring protocol. Data also enable to assess differences between weekend versus weekday activity behavior and activity patterns within a given day.

Validity, reliability and calibration of the Tritrac accelerometer as a measure of physical activity

Article Abstract:

Trial tests indicate that the Tritrac accelerometer is an accurate means of measuring physical activity. In studies using treadmill walking and running, the device demonstrated reliability and validity in its data acquisition and its ability to estimate energy expenditure, and is capable of distinguishing different levels of intensity in exercise.
