Spring cleaning: a once-over for your gear

A boat's electronic gear needs regular maintenance just as does any other of the boat's systems. Common electronic problems include poor VHF reception and GPS inaccuracies. Information about correcting these problems and maintaining other electronic equipment is provided.

Boat owners should never reverse the polarity of electronic gear, run it on low voltage or subject it to physical abuse. Electronics should be installed by a certified electronic technician in a location with minimal exposure to the elements.
