Stretch it out: the eight best stretches for runners

Increasing flexibility decreases injury risks. Athletes including runners should consistently do stretching exercises. Runners should stretch after the run. The stretching exercises suggested are based on the lyengar yoga method in which contacting and expanding of muscles is done simultaneously.

Starting out too fast in a race is a common error made by runners. Pacing drills will help a runner find and maintain the best pace for winning a race. Instructions are given on pacing drills called negative splits. The runner should start with an easy mile jog before beginning the drill.
