A runner describes the experiences of running with his father. The father almost never spoke, but father and son ran together in several races, with the father always pulling ahead during the races. Then one day, the son was able to pull ahead of the father.

An engineered kick: Matt Giusto hones speed in five gears

Article Abstract:

Runner Matt Giusto utilizes sprint speed in the last 200 meters of his 5,000 meter races to win. He has five increments of speed he uses to stay ahead of his opponents. His 'speed coach' is Brooks Johnson and his 'endurance coach' was the late Don Dooley.
