Many times the forgotten tournament partner of the winner became a winner himself in the future. Several anecdotes are related in which the 'other guy' went on to success. These players include Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Tom Watson, Nick Faldo, Greg Norman, and Tom Weiskopf.

Titanic Thompson was a golfer and con artist in the 1920s who gambled money on games. He was highly skilled, ambidextrous and would lose right-handed intentionally, then offer to play again left-handed.
