The proxy efficacy exercise questionnaire: Development of an instrument to assess female exercisers' proxy efficacy beliefs in structured group exercise classes

Article Abstract:

Three phases of research are studied to develop a measure of proxy efficacy for use in group-exercise contexts where participants engage in exercise under the direction of a group-exercise leader. Results provide preliminary support for the Proxy Efficacy Exercise Questionnaire (PEEQ) as a measure that can provide valid and reliable scores representing women's proxy efficacy beliefs in group-exercise settings.

The effects of self-set versus assigned goals on exercisers' self-efficacy for an unfamiliar task

Article Abstract:

The experiment compared the effects of self-set versus assigned goals on exercisers' self-efficacy to perform a novel grip-strength task. The findings suggested that goals assigned by an authority figure could increase self-confidence in beginner exercisers.
