Article Abstract:

Billie Jean King's upset victory against Bobby Riggs on Sep 20, 1973 did not only show the enormous athletic capabilities of women, but prompted feminist groups to fight for equal legal rights, as well. The victory eventually gave way for the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment.
