Time-motion analysis of professional rugby union players during match-play

Article Abstract:

A study is performed to quantify the movement patterns of various playing position during professional rugby union match-play, so that the relative importance of aerobic and anaerobic energy pathways to performance could be estimated. The results suggest that rugby training and fitness testing needs to be customized particularly to positional groups rather than simply differentiating between forwards and backs.

Cervical range of motion and proprioception in rugby players versus non-rugby players

Article Abstract:

The effects of number of years of playing rugby on neck function, the cervical spine range of motion and proprioception are examined and compared with those of non-rugby players. The results have revealed a significantly reduced ability to return to a neutral position following neck extension in rugby players when compared with non-rugby players.
