Quebec

Article Abstract:

Many foreign companies with operations in Quebec expressed satisfaction with the province's investment climate. In particular, the province's high quality of life, research and development tax incentives, loyal labor force and proximity to the US serves to draw multinationals to the area. However, Quebec's economy is saddled with a record deficit. Moreover, a potentially divisive referendum on sovereignty is being planned before the end of 1995. Despite these setbacks, provincial leaders are optimistic that more foreign companies will start operations in Quebec in 1995.

Tyre sales are dominated by a few multinational players, including Michelin, Bridgestone and Goodyear Tire and Rubber. It is expected that the replacement tyre market will total 804 million pounds sterling in 1995, rising to 810 million pounds sterling in 1999.
